Blocked drains in Bournemouth
A drain that's slow to empty is usually an early warning, not a one-off. Left alone, it tends to become a full blockage at the least convenient moment — so it's worth getting looked at properly rather than just dosing it with another bottle of drain cleaner.
Inside the house, the usual culprits are fat and food debris in kitchen pipework, and hair and soap scum in bathroom waste pipes. Outside, tree roots, built-up silt and wipes or sanitary products flushed down the toilet are common causes of blockages in the shared drainage running out to the main sewer.
Tom will typically start with rods or an electric drain snake for a straightforward blockage. For anything more stubborn, or where a blockage keeps coming back in the same spot, a drain camera survey can show exactly what's going on inside the pipe — a cracked joint, a collapsed section, or roots growing in through a seal — rather than guessing.
If more than one drain in the house is backing up at once, or you can smell drains outside, that often points to a blockage further down the shared run rather than a single fitting, which is useful to mention when you call.
When to call a plumber
- A sink, bath or shower is draining slower than usual over several days
- Water is backing up or bubbling from a different drain when you flush or run a tap
- An outside gully or manhole is overflowing
- A blockage keeps returning in the same place after clearing it yourself
